Beginning July 1, 2024, a selection of my small landscape paintings are showing at the Sedona Center for Harmony & Enrichment. The center is in the HOZHO building at 431 AZ-179 Suite A6, Sedona, AZ 86336. Three 11 x 14 and six 5 x 7 paintings are on exhibition.

I attended the First Friday Sedona Art Walk event at the Sedona Center for Harmony & Enrichment this past Friday, July 5. It was a fun event where I met some other exhibiting artists. It was the first time I was an exhibiting artist, so I didn’t venture to any other galleries.

Acrylic Skins class is Coming Up Again on Sep 14 & 21 Join Us!

The first Acrylic Skins class was so much fun that I will do it again this month. Join us on two Wednesdays from 9 am to Noon on Sep. 14 & 21 at the Sedona Arts Center.

This class will give you knowledge and hands-on experience in making and using acrylic skins. You will also be able to use them in a painting.

How Can You Use an Acrylic Skin?

Acrylic Skins can be used as collage elements in your acrylic and mixed-media art projects. Whether you use all acrylic with paints and gel mediums or embed found objects in them, it's a process that is super versatile.

It's just plain fun! 

Experimentation is where's it at during this process. On the first day, I'll show you many different techniques and ways of creating your skins. And then, you will be able to create 3-5 skins during class.

On the 2nd day of class, you will use your skins on a painting to take home with you. It might not get completely finished, but it will be well on its way for you to work on once you return home. This process is addicting!

That Painting Gives Me Goosebumps

I'm getting goosebumps, said my neighbor as she looked at my painting
Sometimes, as the painter, you just don't know how someone else is going to react to your painting. In this case, my recent en plein air acrylic painting. I painted it in three different sessions on site at Courthouse Butte in Sedona, Arizona.

When my neighbor saw it at a live painting event I was doing, she told me it was a special painting. The more she looked at it, the more she felt goosebumps. She said that there was one word, Ancient. She said it felt like the energy was from long ago during the crystalline age of Sedona.

Sedona, the Land of Crystalline Energy

This is not the first time I have heard about the crystalline energy in this spot. A visitor told me she could see crystal energy spurting from the top of the mountain as we hiked together. I couldn't see it nor feel it then, and I don't feel it now. But, that is not to say that others cannot feel it. I wish I could. Maybe my energy talents lie within the painting process and allowing the energy to be captured on the canvas.

The camera on my phone is acting out so I don't have a full photo of the completed painting. It is too large for my scanner. I'll try to get a good photo of it and post it another time.

During the second painting session, a photographer passerby took photos of me painting. He was nice enough to send them to me via email. Thanks, Pat Kaufmann!

When it comes to purchasing fine art, buy a piece that you love. If you connect strongly with a work of art, go ahead and consider purchasing it. The joy and happiness that this original work of art will give you will be immeasurable.

Imagine a space in your home or office where it might fit. And ask yourself some questions such as:

1. Why do I like this piece?
2. What does it remind me of?
3. How do these colors make me feel?
4. Overall, how does this piece make me feel?

Sedona Art Hikes

Coming January 2016! I am happy to announce that my new art business venture, Sedona Art Hikes, will be seeking hikers who want to create art out on the red rocks of Sedona's amazing landscape.

This venture has required a lot of background and foundational work this year.

The first step was acquiring the Red Rock Ranger Outfitters Hiking Permit. That was a major big deal with many hoops to jump through to get it. I waited a year just to apply. The U.S. Forest service here in Sedona had not opened up this opportunity in eight years. I was one out of 18 to win the permit from the 40 applicants.

The second step was that I applied for a Chase Mission MainStreet small business grant to help fund this new venture within my art business. I procured the 250 votes needed to be in the running for the $100,000 grant, which I did not get. I will work on funding ideas very soon!

I am also tickled that Sedona Art Hikes is featured on the Sedona Verde Valley GeoTourism website that is sponsored by National Geographic. To get listed on this tourism website is exciting. That means that people will be able to find me when looking for things to do in Sedona.

My next steps are meeting with the Red Rock Ranger representative to go over my proposal and then wait for them to do their land reports. I will be getting CPR and First Aid training next month.

Tomorrow, I will attend a meeting with local Concierge personnel to introduce my business so they can begin telling visitors about it.

I am delighted beyond measure to imagine how much fun this business will be. If you plan a trip to Sedona, book a Sedona Art Hikes experience.

New Painting Merges My Love of The Landscape and Animals

Painting Studio Set Up

Nov. 11, 2014. I have been preparing for a new painting, a commissioned work. I set up my painting space today.

I did the under painting of the sky. After spending quite a bit of time in the initial pre-planning stages, it felt great to finally put paint on canvas!

Landscape Meets Animals

Also, I have to say that as I was painting today, I loved the idea of painting the landscape again. With this painting, my love of nature and the landscape merges with my love of animals.

The Landscape

The landscape is in Sedona, Arizona. The mountain is known as Bell Rock, one of the major vortex sites in Sedona.

The Animals

The animals are the buyer's cats, Dillon and Dexter. They are both Maine Coon cats and quite large.

My Sir Kitty is attempting to become their friends, so far unsuccessfully. I encourage him to keep trying. So far, Dexter just hisses at him. We'll see what happens over time.

So far, this painting is a delight.

Two New Digitally Altered Photographs

Sedona Local Artists Coop

While visiting the Village of Oak Creek in Sedona, Arizona yesterday, I happened upon what I think is a true artists' coop, run and owned by artists. Village Gallery of Local Artists is located at 6500 Highway 179, Sedona (in the Village of Oak Creek).

Landscape Photographer, Grazina Wade, was working her shift when I opened the sliding glass doors and walked in. A conversation began, and I guess it was apparent that I was an artist since she asked me if I was one. "Well, yes...", I said. She then proceeded to take time to explain this particular artists' coop and the advantages of joining. She talked about the wonderful artists that exhibit their work there, showing me their work during our chat.

Then she took me to her wall of amazing photographs. The one of Bryce Canyon in Utah is stunning. She talked about the glow at a particular time in the afternoon that she just loves to capture as she pointed to the tips of the rocks in the photograph. Her Artist Statement on the coop website, is inspiring and well-written.

If you visit Sedona, seek out this artists' coop and buy local art. You will have the satisfaction of making the artists happy while aiding their lives and the life of the coop. Your support affords the artist to keep on doing what they do. It also allows them to have a beautiful place to exhibit it so you can find it.
