Most Visited Print This Week Fond Memories

Fond Memories, Oil on Canvas, 24 x 30 inches.
©2008 Mary Rush Gravelle
This week's most visited print is Fond Memories.

I painted the original Fond Memories painting as a tribute to the house I was housesitting for during the first months of arriving in the Southwest from the Northeast.

I simply could not take my eyes off the beauty of the land and sky here in the Southwest. It inspired me try my hand at painting landscape as my new genre.

Fond Memories and the subsequent eight paintings were from my experience in Oracle, Arizona. Most of them were from the land where this house resides. Others were from hiking trails or the land at Rancho Linda Vista, an artist's community where I stayed for my first two weeks of arriving in the Southwest.

Pictured at right is my suggestion for framing this print when you go to my print website.

Restoring Color

One Small Act: A Christo Moment

The number two visited print this week: One Small Act, Wrapped Cactus after Christo, a photography performance piece I created in 2012.

I had not realized that a fire on Boston Hill in Silver City, New Mexico had hit so close to a favorite hiking trail that I had not hiked for a while. I was shocked at the devastation I saw along the trail. I decided to act out a "Christo performance art" moment by wrapping a burnt cactus thereby restoring color that had been lost to the fire.

The final piece is a photo montage of 11 photographs I took during my ceremony of restoring this site, at least a part thereof, back to color. This was one of my most enjoyable projects. That day, after I had completed my task, I walked away from the site with a smug delightful and loving feeling, knowing that unsuspecting future hikers would happen upon my creation. I had hoped it would add a glimmer of hope and joy to their hike.

To the right is a staged photograph I took of a beautiful burnt goddess tree in which I introduced yellow silk daffodils into the hole that had been burnt through her trunk.

What do you think? Was I successful?

Flower Light Print

Flower Light, digital print. ©2013 Mary Rush Gravelle.
Here is a detail from my painting that I am offering as a print. Can you imagine this in a large size on a wall above your couch, bed, or dining room table?

It would also make a grand addition to a lobby area welcoming your guests with a delightful feeling of good cheer.

Phone Art Flower in Process Painting Phase 8 and Final Version

May 6, 2013. Blooming.
Acrylic on Canvas, 36 x 36 x 1.5 inches.

It's Done!

Finally… my phone art flower painting (now called "Blooming") is complete. Almost. I will need to add a clear coat and a couple of coats of varnish. Then, it will be finished and ready to move into a new home. Maybe yours?

In this final stage, there were only a few things left to do: connect the two purple rectangles top center forming one large rectangle, change some of the green color in places, and add some green to the flowers in their centers and on the petals.

It came into its own during the painting process, breaking away from its origins as a digital work on my phone app.

Below are the different stages this painting went through.

Please feel free to comment on the final stage, the process of how it went through the various stages, or anything else that comes to your mind to share.

Thank you for visiting and looking at my art. This painting is for sale. Contact me with your interest.

Here is how the size (36 x 36 inches)
might look in your house. It would also
work well in an office, doctor's office,
children's room, wellness center, or
anywhere that good cheer is desired
