Phone Art Flower in Process Painting Phase 7

April 29, 2013. Phase 7.
Phone Art Flower Painting,
Acrylic on Canvas, 36 x 36 x 1.5 inches.
©2013 Mary Rush Gravelle.

During this painting session, I devoted my time to the purple in the background.

This painting is winding down almost to completion. It is in the stage of spending more time contemplating the next move than painting. This is the stage where I do not want to overdo it lest I ruin it or create dissonance.

If I do either of those two options, I will spend my time working to bring it back to life. Occasionally, it creates a better painting. Sometimes, it really creates a lot of stress and agonizing.

I prefer not to go over the edge, but sometimes I do, like I did with my Sir Kitty at Home painting. I spent a lot of time bringing it back from the dead. I wish I had not taken it that far.

I prefer to leave some unfinished pieces to the painting, like rough edges or such. I believe this helps add breath and life to the painting. Otherwise, I could push it to its demise and create a dead image. Perfection can go either way… either give it strength or seal its coffin.

The original image came from an image I created on my android phone in an app called PaintJoy.

How do you like it so far? Are there any places on this painting that you love?

  1. Art is a fascinating animal. We each see something different when viewing it. Viewing it appeals to a part in our brain that brings peace and calm. Nice piece.

    1. Thanks, Loretta! Right on… art gets to a part of our brain that nothing else can touch. And our individualized way of seeing allows the piece to become one's own after the artist has created it.

    1. Thanks, Christian… I like that you noticed what you liked about the painting. I will bet that you like that in your life too… contrasting situations create tension and life force.

  5. Such is life...perfection can give something strength or cause you stress. What a lovely painting and metaphor!

    1. Thank you, Deanna. I had not thought about perfection as being a metaphor, but, you are so right! So many of us strive for perfection to our detriment. We end up sucking the life force right out of our lives by working ourselves to exhaustion in the name of perfection. Sometimes, "good enough" is absolutely perfect.

  9. It's amazing that there is an app for everything. I'm sure this let's you be creative wherever you are. I especially like the lower right flower with the touch of green on the petal. I agree that it's so easy to overdo things.

I commented on the flower at a different blog of yours but not sure how you responded to it.
    I would love to know.
